Stella pulo
I have worked as a literacy consultant, seminar leader, acting coach and teaching artist in a variety of settings in Australia, Europe, Japan, and since 1997, the United States.
My most satisfying experience is when I am able to inspire and motivate people, taking them enthusiastically from where they are to where they need to go. I differentiate all teaching according to whom I’m working with, how they learn best, and what needs to be achieved. As a literacy consultant, I have modeled effective teaching strategies for classroom teachers, assisted school principals and administrators with developing school action plans, creating collaborative teaching teams and with planning and conducting professional development.
Whether coaching actors for auditions, conducting workshops for animators, conducting writing seminars, guiding young adults in theatre appreciation, facilitating an English language voice laboratory or teaching drama in correction centers, I encourage learning for the sake of it and not just as a means to an end. This usually results in passing, achieving, love for learning and the desire to learn more.
“Gradually Ms. Pulo won over the most resistant teachers with her charismatic personality, credibility and utmost professionalism.”
Jennifer Connolly, Assistant Principal, NYDOE, Alternative Schools and Programs, GED Plus
“Your enthusiasm and commitment to my work has been an inspiration, drawing from a well that seems to never run dry.” Craig Gillespie, New Stage Dramatics, Melbourne, Australia
“You and your work, your passion, your inspiration, your dedication to the Institute are at the heart of our work.” Cathryn Williams, Director of Strategic Alliances, Lincoln Center Institute
“Ms Pulo became the leader of our ‘Engish through Drama’ course whereby students were able to discover English and learn its practical applications through the medium of
role play and drama. The course has been successful beyond all expectations.”
David Williams, Assistant Area Manager. Nova Group, Japan
“As you could sense from the discussion following your seminar, you stimulated the students into creating and performing their own work.”
Isabelle Buttigieg, Executive Coordinator, Theatre Studies, Malta University
“Stella’s help was invaluable. I had to audition in English for a production soon to tour Japan and I was cast.” Kaoru Nishida, Tokyo
“Stella visited schools to work with students on the Winterarts repertoire of performances. In every case she did that with energy and integrity. Her exuberance won over the most recalcitrant group of teenagers.”
Jane Phillips, WinterArts Coordinator, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
